每年中国医院的中医药门诊会接待近3亿的患者，而且中医的进一步治疗也比西药治疗更便宜。对于艾滋病和癌症等疾病，中医药具有特有的优势，甚至对于吸毒者戒毒也有很大的疗效。对于以上优势，政府大力支持中医药。

然而事实上，中国人正慢慢地趋向于西医药，最近的一个调查表明72%的中国人会选择西医而不选择中医。中国卫生部呼吁社会支持传统中医药，“中医药是中国的国粹，现代社会它仍是我们治疗疾痛的重要选择。”

Traditional Chinese Medicine Has Few Takers in China

A case of other side of the grass is greener; the west is all taken up with traditional Chinese medicine, whereas, in China, home grown remedies are being abandoned for seemingly better western medicines.

Recently a proposal is doing the rounds to formally put out traditional Chinese medicine, or TCM from the Chinese healthcare system. But this has raised public ire to a certain extent and has also piqued the government.

TCM departments in Chinese hospitals cater to nearly 300 million visits a year. Further traditional treatments are far cheaper than Western drugs; the government is highly supportive of its benefit in treating ailments from HIV to cancer, even effective for addicts who are greatly benefited by TCM for effective deaddiction.

Clearly the Chinese are slowly changing sides to western medicine, infact a recent survey has shown that 72% of Chinese would rather opt for modern medicine in place of TCM. China's Ministry of Health rising in support of traditional medicine, said "TCM is the essence of China. In modern times it is still an important choice for us to cure diseases and pain."
