6.  The only tensor muscle of the larynx is the ____?
7.  Bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve injury may result in ____?
8.  Unilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve injury may result in ____?

The larynx is innervated by which two branches of the vagus nerve?
The Superior Laryngeal Nerve (SLN) and the Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve (RLN) are two branches of the vagus nerve that innervate the larynx.

The Superior Laryngeal Nerve divides into what two branches?
The Superior Laryngeal Nerve (SLN) divides into the Internal Laryngeal Nerve and the External Laryngeal Nerve.

What is the sensory innervation of the larynx?
The sensory innervaton of the larynx from the epiglottis and arytenoids through the vocal cords is via the SLN. The sensory innervation in the larynx below the vocal cords is via the RLN. The trachea also receives sensory innervation via the RLN.

The external laryngeal nerve innervates what muscles?
The External Laryngeal Nerve is a motor nerve, innervating the cricothyroid muscle and part of the transverse arytenoid muscle.

The recurrent laryngeal nerve innervates what muscles of the larynx?
The Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve innervates all the muscles of the larynx except the cricothryroid muscle and part of the transverse arytenoid muscle.

The only tensor muscle of the larynx is the ____?
The Cricothyroid muscle is the only tensor muscle of the larynx.

Bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve injury may result in ____?
Bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve injury may result in paralysis of all of the intrinsic muscles of the larynx, except the cricothyroid muscle and part of the transverse arytenoid muscle (which are supplied by the external laryngeal nerve). This may cause respiratory obstruction as the vocal cords become approximated midline.

Unilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve injury may result in ____?
Unilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve injury may result in one vocal cord in the midline position. This can result in hoarseness and an increased risk of aspiration.
