第一个病毒癌基因的发现:Duesberg PH是发现者之一。

第一个细胞癌基因(原癌基因)的发现,为此美国人Varmus HE, Bishop JM获得1989年诺贝尔奖,方法就是博士后法国人Stehelin D用了半年时间制造基因探针,只是杂交了一下正常鸡的组织,发现了病毒的癌基因竟然也存在于正常动物组织之中,由此解开了癌基因理论的序幕。为此法国人Stehelin D要求他也应当获得诺贝尔奖,并要打官司。Duesberg 认为应当有资格获得诺贝尔奖的还有Hidesabuo Hanafusa 和 Peter Vogt 以及他自己,还有Robert Weinberg.
