Some of the most important goals for current scientific research are the development of approaches to improve human health, produce sustainable agriculture, promote bio-energy, and protect the environment. A unique area that can provide the fundamental bases for achieving these objectives is through an understanding of the ever-evolving genetic makeup of all organisms, which can be achieved through advances in genomics, Multi-level Omics and computational biological research.
The 5th International Conference on Genomics (ICG-V), to be held in Shenzhen, China, November 15–18, 2010, will emphasize the latest advances in genomic technologies, bioinformatics developments, and their relevant biological findings, with a focus on how progress in these areas will impact our lives.
ICG 2010 will be the fifth gathering of old friends and new who are representatives from all over the world from a variety of fields. As such, ICG-V will provide the information on the newest of sequencing technologies, their development and discoveries, and their applications to numerous areas of research. Leaders from the major genomics centers will provide updates on their progress and present novel research strategies. Industry vendors and scientists will exhibit prototypes of new sequencers, display blueprints, and present their innovative ideas and revolutionary protocols for a variety of applications. There will also be reports on the new discoveries and future plans from “The International 1000 Genomes Project”, “The MetaHIT Project”, “The 10,000 Microbe Genomes Project”, “The 1000 Plant and Animal Reference Genomes Project”, and many other regional, national, and international projects. Presenters will also be reporting on advances made through large-scale research on many common/complex diseases. There will also be discussion of the upcoming ethical, legal, and social challenges that must be faced as the potential for genetic modification and synthetic genomics moves toward reality.
As in the past, ICG-V is expected to have at least 500 attendees, which will include leading scientists, government officials, and entrepreneurs. Given the presentations and the wide mix of attendees, we believe that ICG-V will provide the best opportunity for building lasting collaborations and devising new projects with not only your Chinese colleagues, but with those from all over the world. We especially welcome your input and proposals for making ICG-V the most comprehensive and successful endeavor possible.
We look forward to welcoming you to ICG-V and to China in 2010!
