WELCOME TO International Conference on the progress of "1000 Plant and Animal Reference Genomes Project" and 2010 International Symposium on Tea (Camellia sinensis) Genome
MAY 13-14, 2010 SHENZHEN, CHINA
Animals, plants and microbes, along with human being, consist of the ecological environment in the earth. At this genomic era, it has become an urgent task to decode their genomes, which is the start to study the biological features, understand the genetic bases of evolution, and also promotes the industrialization of biotechnology. The complete genome of one species will define the related biological researches through the coming decades.
BGI (formally known as Beijing Genomic Institute, www.genomics.cn), as one of the world’s biggest genomic centers, owns the next-generation sequencing platform and a world-class bioinformatics team. Recently BGI officially launched the "1000 Plant and Animal Reference Genomes Project" (ldl.genomics.org.cn) and calls for collaborations from all over the world. This plan has evoked great interest worldwide and many researchers have joined the project.
The International Conference on the progress of "1000 Plant and Animal Reference Genomes Project" will be held in Shenzhen, China from May 13 to 14, 2010. We organize this conference to report the progress on developing reference genomes, including crops, fruits, flowers, trees, fish, insects, mammals etc and to release the initiative genome projects. Moreover, scientists can share their experience and knowledge and discuss the prospects of genomics researches. The accomplishment of this project will definitely make a deep imprint in the history of science development.
Following this conference, we will also organize a Symposium on Tea (Camellia sinensis) Genome. The tea plant, Camellia sinensis, is native to mainland South and Southeast Asia. The properties of tea plant have been widely explored and enormous progresses have been made in a variety of fields. At this genomic era, it has become an urgent task to have the reference genome available, which will allow researchers to further understand the genetic bases of evolution and economically/medicinally important traits, thus define biological research on tea plant through the coming decades.
We look forward to welcoming you to the International Conference on the progress of "1000 Plant and Animal Reference Genomes Project" and 2010 International Symposium on Tea (Camellia sinensis) Genome!
