It gives us great pleasure to invite you to the 10th Annual Meeting of the Asian Society for Neuro-oncology (ASNO), which will take place in Mumbai, India from 21st to 24th March, 2013.
The meeting will be jointly held along with the 5th Annual Meeting of the Indian Society of NeuroOncology (ISNO).
This is the premier annual meeting for specialists in Asia dedicated to all aspects of neuro-oncology. We welcome all oncologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, basic and translational scientists, neuro-pathologists, radiologists, psychologists, rehabilitation workers, nurses and all professionals involved in the care and welfare of people with tumours of the central nervous system.
Our region is home to perhaps the largest number of patient populations but is also the most diverse with considerable variations in the demographics, socio-economic status, delivery of care etc. These pose considerable challenges for clinicians, scientists and allied professionals and ASNO meetings serve as a suitable platform for fellow colleagues from different regions to share and collaborate to address some of these challenges. There is a also a tremendous opportunity to conduct quality research (both basic and clinical) including issues particularly pertinent to Asian patient populations.
In the recent past few years, there has been a tremendous growing awareness among many countries in Asia to participate in these meetings and we strive to include many more in the ASNO fold. Indeed we now heartily welcome our friends and colleagues from Australia/Oceania regions to join us as well in these meetings, which will strengthen the society and help fulfil some of its aims and objectives.
The organising committee is working hard to make the meeting a successful one including an interesting scientific programme, which will include invited talks, plenary sessions, concurrent scientific sessions, poster viewing, meet the expert morning sessions, symposia and a session for the ‘patients and families’. We have already confirmed and expect a fair number of internationally renowned experts in various fields of neuro-oncology, from different parts of the world to join us in the meeting, which would be an excellent opportunity for fellow professionals from our regions to interact with them. We are also planning several social events including an evening reception, gala banquet and what would hopefully be a breathtaking Indian classical music programme presented from widely acclaimed maestros.
The ASNO 2013 meeting will be held from Thursday, March 21st to Sunday, March 24th. As a meeting place we have chosen the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, a perfect symbol of traditional warm Indian hospitality. The hotel is located in the tourist-friendly Southern region of Mumbai opposite the famous ‘Gateway of India’ overlooking the Arabian sea. There will also be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sights and sounds of India to get first hand feel of the ethos and character of the Indian way of life as well as explore some of the major tourist attractions of the city in the near vicinity, literally minutes away from the hotel. Weather in Mumbai will be pleasantly warm at that point of time.
