  It is a great pleasure for us to welcome you to China to attend the 9th Biennial Conference of the Asian Association of Social Psychology to be held at Kunming, China, from July 28 to 31, 2011.  The theme "Towards Social Harmony: A New Mission of Asian Social Psychology" of the conference gives priority to a healthy dialogue between Asian cultural traditions and globalization, and emphasizes the dynamics of peaceful interaction among different cultures, society and social groups. After Hong Kong in 1995, Kyoto in 1997, Taipei in 1999, Melbourne in 2001, Manila in 2003, Wellington in 2005, Sabah in 2007 and Delhi in 2009, this conference will be held in China, for the first time. This move represents an excellent opportunity for us to connect with our Asian neighbors and develop collaborative programmes of social psychological research. It provides a golden opportunity for exchanges in all areas of social psychology, and among different cultures of Asia. We are planning numerous social and tourism activities that we hope will contribute to the development of social psychological research and its application, and serve as an academic forum for social psychologists in Asia-Pacific.  Kunming popularly called as "Spring City", is the political, economic, communications and cultural center of Yunnan province, situated in a fertile lake basin on the northern shore of the Lake Dian and surrounded by mountains to the north, west, and east. The city of eternal spring enjoys a pleasant climate all the year round with flowers blooming everywhere. Here is a microcosm of China in the areas of minority affairs and nationality relations. The province has 25 ethnic groups, nearly half of the country's total, some living in self-administrative districts with unique cultural living conditions.  We, as the conference organization committee, are putting in our best efforts to make your visit comfortable and enjoyable. We are hopeful that you shall join us in making this event a grand success.   The conference program will feature Invited Keynote Addresses, Symposia, Oral Presentations, Poster Presentations and Summer School for Social Psychology PhD students in Asia.The conference now invites submissions for:SymposiaOral PresentationsPoster Presentations  A Symposium is designed to be a focused session in which speakers present on a common theme, issue or question. The symposium is usually begins by a chairperson who briefly introducing the topic to the attending members guiding them towards the 'broad picture' into the following session. Each session is usually presented by at least 4 but not more than 6 individual speakers, and there would be opportunities for audience members to ask questions of presenters and for an exchange of views. Each symposium session will run for 90 minutes and with the concluding remarks by the chairperson at the end.  Oral Presentations must report on the empirical findings of a theoretically driven research project, which can include critically evaluating the empirical findings of others in the form of a meta-analysis or critical review. Each individual paper will consist of 15 minute presentation plus 3 minutes for questions and answers. Speakers will usually be expected to use PowerPoint slides, but there is also some scope for other audiovisual formats if prearranged with the organizers. The speakers' time should be allocated equally between a theoretically driven introduction, methodology and results, and discussion/conclusions. The Scientific Committee will integrate the sets of individual presents into thematic sessions of 90 minutes duration.  Posters will be made available for viewing in the Conference foyer. On a poster session, presenters will have a chance to talk to people one on one, rather than doing a presentation to a large group of people. The author will stand next to your poster on the day of the conference and answer questions about your research. At that time authors will have the opportunity to talk to and exchange ideas with the conference participants.
